Who we are
Wholesome Girlies is a women's health platform for African women, at home and in the diaspora. In this policy, "we", "us", and "our" mean Wholesome Girlies, a Nigeria-based business. [Registered company name, RC number, and registered address — to be added on CAC registration.] We are the data controller for the information described here, which means we decide how and why it is used.
If you have any question about your privacy, email us at legal@wholesomegirlies.xyz.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Your email address when you subscribe to our newsletter or sign up for a program.
- Your name and contact details when you sign up for a paid program or write to us.
- Anything you type in a message to us, in a form, or in our community space.
Information collected automatically
- Basic usage data such as the pages you visit, the tools you open, the device and browser you use, your rough location (country or city, not your exact address), and how you found us.
- This is collected through the analytics and advertising tools described under Cookies and tracking.
Payment information
When you buy a program, payment is handled by our payment provider, Selar. Your card or bank details go to them, not to us. We receive a confirmation that you paid and the details you chose to share, such as your name and email.
Your tool data stays with you
Our calculators, trackers, and checklists are built to run inside your browser. When a tool remembers your entries, for example your last period date or a checklist you ticked, it saves that only on your own device, using your browser's local storage. It is not sent to us, and we cannot see it. If you clear your browser data or use a different device, those entries are gone. Please treat any sensitive health details you enter as private to your device.
Why we use your information
- To send you what you asked for, such as the newsletter or a program you joined.
- To run and improve the site, understand what is helpful, and decide what to build next.
- To keep the site safe and prevent misuse.
- To respond when you contact us.
- To show and measure our ads, so we reach more women who need this, and to understand which ones work. We do not use your sensitive health details to target ads.
- To meet our legal and tax obligations.
Our legal basis
For readers in Europe and the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) asks us to name a legal basis for using your data. Ours are:
- Your consent, for the newsletter, which you give when you subscribe and can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing.
- Performing a contract, when you buy a program and we deliver it.
- Our legitimate interests, in running, securing, and improving a service that people find useful — including the analytics and advertising cookies described below, which you can turn off at any time (see Cookies and tracking) — in a way that does not override your rights.
- Legal obligation, when the law requires us to keep or share certain records.
Cookies and tracking
Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. We use them, and similar tools, to keep the site working and to understand how it is used. The main ones are:
- Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager, to analyse traffic and understand how pages and tools are used, without identifying you personally.
- Google Ads, for remarketing and to measure which ads lead to sign-ups and purchases.
- Meta Pixel, to measure and improve our ads on Facebook and Instagram.
- TikTok Pixel, to measure and improve our ads on TikTok.
- Snapchat Pixel, to measure and improve our ads on Snapchat.
- X (Twitter) Pixel, to measure and improve our ads on X.
- Microsoft Clarity, to see anonymised heatmaps and session activity so we can find and fix what makes the site hard to use.
- A first-party server we use to collect this measurement data more privately.
You can turn off or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of ad tracking in your account settings on Google, Meta, TikTok, Snapchat, and X. We may add or remove tools over time and will keep this list current. Turning off cookies will not stop the tools from working, since the tools run on your device.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the trusted services that help us run Wholesome Girlies, and only as much as they need:
- Selar, to take payments for programs.
- Brevo, our email platform, to send the newsletter and program emails.
- Google, Meta, TikTok, Snapchat, X, and Microsoft, for analytics and advertising, as described above.
- Our hosting and technical providers, to keep the site online and secure.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or if the business is ever transferred to new owners. In that case we would tell you first.
How long we keep it
We keep your information only as long as we need it for the reasons above, or as long as the law requires. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data, we remove it from our active systems, keeping only what we must for legal or accounting reasons.
Your rights
Whether you are covered by the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) or the GDPR, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy.
- Correct anything that is wrong or out of date.
- Ask us to delete your data.
- Object to or restrict how we use it.
- Withdraw your consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing.
- Ask us to move your data to another service where that applies.
- Complain to a data protection authority. In Nigeria that is the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). In Europe it is your local authority.
To use any of these rights, email us at legal@wholesomegirlies.xyz. We will respond within the time the law allows.
Where your data is handled
Wholesome Girlies serves women in Nigeria and around the world, and some of the services we use store or process data outside your country, including outside Nigeria and the European Union. When that happens, we take steps to make sure your data stays protected to the standard the law expects.
How we protect it
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to keep your data safe, including secure connections (HTTPS) and trusted providers. No system online is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute safety, but we work to protect your information and to act quickly if anything goes wrong.
Children
Wholesome Girlies is meant for adult women. It is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the business grows or the law changes. When we make an important change, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, tell you directly.
