Wholesome Girlies vs Flo
Last updated: October 2026
A comparison for a woman trying to conceive
Use Flo for daily logging with symptoms, reminders and sync across your devices. Use Wholesome Girlies for a period and ovulation calendar that opens with no account and no card, keeps your dates only on your phone, and sits beside a paid plan for the wait, questions for the clinic and a checklist for your partner. We do not claim our calculator predicts better than Flo. It is plain arithmetic, and the page shows the sum.
We make Wholesome Girlies. Every claim about it comes from our own tools and prices, and every claim about another app comes from that app's own pages and its Nigerian store listing.
The comparison
| Wholesome Girlies | Flo | |
|---|---|---|
| Account to use the tools | ✓None. The Period Tracker and Ovulation Calculator open on the date field. | Optional. Flo's Anonymous Mode opens the app without a name or email. A Flo account syncs across your devices. |
| Card and price | The tools need no card. The Trying-to-Conceive Blueprint is ₦5,700 early-bird (₦13,700 standard), paid once. Buyers abroad pay $12 early-bird ($27 standard). | On Android in Nigeria, Premium has no charge for one year from the upgrade date under Flo's Pass It On Project, and Nigeria is on its list. On the Nigerian App Store, Premium purchases are between ₦3,900 (about $3) and ₦29,900 (about $22). |
| Where your dates are kept | ✓Only on your phone. The page says: Saved only on this phone. Nothing is sent to us. A forget button clears them. | On Flo's servers, encrypted. Flo says it has never sold user data and earns money from subscriptions only. |
| Your own cycle average | After three logged period starts, the tracker uses your own average from your last six gaps. It skips any gap under 18 days or over 60 days as a missed log. | Flo says it predicts from the cycle dates you log plus its own algorithm, and that predictions improve the more you log. |
| Backup and restore | ✓Save a backup file in the Girlies app and restore it on a new phone. The tools also work with no data once the app is installed. | Syncs across your devices with a Flo account. |
| Nigerian and diaspora context | ✓Written for Nigerian and diaspora women, with prices in naira and dollars and clinic advice for Nigeria, such as taking your last three or four period dates with you. | Written for a global audience. Nigeria is one of the countries in its Pass It On Project. |
| A plan for the wait | ✓The Trying-to-Conceive Blueprint has five parts: your body and cycle, preparing, It Takes Two, your numbers and when to get help, and the mind and the marriage while you wait. | A large library of articles. |
| Questions for the clinic | ✓Fertility Appointment Questions lets you tick what you want to ask, add your own, print it and take it along. | A Symptom Checker and a Health Library to read before your visit. |
| A checklist for your partner | His Fertility Checklist. Send it to him and he ticks the steps himself. | Flo for Partners shares medical insights and tips with your partner. |
| Community | A protected Conception community for Blueprint buyers, open for life. | Secret Chats, a moderated chat space in the app. Flo says 7 million members chat there each month. |
| Symptoms and reminders | Not in our tools. They record period start dates only, and they send no reminders. | Flo logs symptoms and sends reminders. |
| Library and history | Six fertility tools and the guides on Wholesome Girlies. | A very large content library, about 70 million monthly users by Flo's own count, and every log you have entered over the years. |
A tick marks something we can show in our own code or a cited source. Flo facts come from Flo's own pages and its Nigerian store listings.
Where Wholesome Girlies is ahead
✓No account and no card
Open the Ovulation Calculator, type the first day of your last period and pick your cycle length. Your fertile window shows on the same screen. There is no sign-in and no payment step.
✓Your dates stay on your phone
Logged period dates sit in storage on your phone. The page says: Saved only on this phone. Nothing is sent to us. A forget button clears them.
✓Your own average, after three periods
Log the first day of each period. After three, the tracker replaces the cycle length you typed with your own average. It uses up to your last six gaps and skips any gap under 18 days or over 60 days as a missed log.
✓New phone, same dates
The Girlies app has Save a backup and Restore a backup. Your saved entries go into one file you keep. Once the app is installed, the tools also work with no data.
✓Written for Nigeria and the diaspora
Prices show in naira for Nigerian buyers and in dollars for buyers abroad. The advice fits a clinic visit here: take your last three or four period dates, because a clinician finds them more useful than one calculator result.
✓A plan for the wait
The Trying-to-Conceive Blueprint is one payment of ₦5,700 early-bird (₦13,700 standard), or $12 early-bird ($27 standard) abroad. It walks you through your cycle, preparing, your partner, your tests and the wait. You also get lifetime access to a protected Conception community and an assistant that teaches and sends you to a doctor for anything clinical.
✓Clinic questions to print, and his own checklist
Fertility Appointment Questions lets you tick, add and print. His Fertility Checklist is for your partner to tick himself. Fertility involves both of you.
Where Flo is ahead
A bigger community
Flo's Secret Chats is a moderated chat space inside the app, and Flo says 7 million members chat there each month. Our Conception community is limited to Blueprint buyers.
Daily logging
Flo records symptoms, sends reminders and syncs across your devices. Our tools record period start dates and nothing else. If you want a log you add to every day, Flo does that better.
A bigger library and a longer history
Flo has a very large content library and about 70 million monthly users by its own count. If you already have years of logs there, that history stays with Flo, and starting here means starting from zero.
What women say about Flo
What women find hard
“Too many subscriptions just want a tracking app for dates and symptoms without an extra charge”
“this would be a really good app except that every time you click on it there are a million pop ups trying to get you to subscribe to the paid version”
“Why do we have to pay it’s an app for our cycle for girls ladies or women”
What women like
“gives pretty accurate predictions and lots of helpful information”
“Flo helps me stay organised with my cycles; it’s awesome and super educational:) very reliable”
The Nigerian review is one woman's words. Flo's Pass It On Project gives Premium at no charge on Android in Nigeria for one year, and the Nigerian App Store sells Premium purchases from ₦3,900 (about $3) to ₦29,900 (about $22).
Quotes are exact, apart from collapsed spaces. Reviews show what women said. They do not show whether it is true, and none of them is medical advice. We pulled them from the public App Store and Google Play listings.
Which should you use?
- Pick Flo if you want daily symptom logs, reminders and sync, or your years of history already sit there.
- Pick the Wholesome Girlies tools if you want a calendar with no account and dates only on your phone.
- Pick the Blueprint if you want a plan, questions for the clinic, a checklist for your partner and a community.
- Use both if you log in Flo and follow the Blueprint.
How the Wholesome Girlies calculator works
The Ovulation Calculator uses two numbers: the first day of your last period and your usual cycle length. It adds the cycle length to that date to find your next period, then counts back 14 days to estimate the day you ovulate. The fertile window it shows starts five days before that day and ends one day after it.
On a 28-day cycle, day 1 is the first day of your period. Your next period is due on day 29, ovulation is estimated on day 15, and the window runs from day 10 to day 16. That is the whole sum.
A calendar estimates and does not detect. A Journal of Medical Internet Research analysis of 7,043 tracked cycles found that ovulation does not sit reliably at the midpoint of a cycle, and the National Health Service says it usually happens 10 to 16 days before your next period. That limit applies to any calendar method, so we do not claim ours predicts better than Flo's.
