Put a Finger Down: Dating Edition

Put a finger down if an aunty has asked when you are bringing someone home. Put a finger down if an ex has texted “hey stranger”. Ten lines, ten fingers. See how many you have left.

This is a game. The lines are common dating moments written for fun, and they say nothing about any man or aunty you know. It runs on your phone, and nothing you tap is saved or sent anywhere.

How Put a Finger Down: Dating Edition works

You get ten lines that start with “Put a finger down if...”. Tap each line that has happened to you and a finger folds down. Your score is the number of fingers you have left, and every band has a name you can post.

  1. Read each line and tap the ones that have happened to you.
  2. Watch your fingers fold down as you go.
  3. Tap See how many fingers I have left to get your band.
  4. Send the game to your friends and compare who has the most fingers left.

What your result means

Your score is for laughing. It counts how many of these lines you have lived, and it says nothing about your love life or your standards. Fewer fingers left means you have heard more of these lines. It does not mean you chose badly.

If a talking stage keeps going without an answer, read the talking stage guide. If a line like “I'm not ready for anything serious” sounds familiar, the situationship guide explains what to ask.

  • Hands down: 0 fingers leftI have no fingers left.
  • Last fingers: 1 to 2 fingers leftI'm down to my last fingers.
  • Half a hand: 3 to 5 fingers leftI'm down to half a hand.
  • Mostly up: 6 to 8 fingers leftMost of my fingers are still up.
  • Still standing: 9 to 10 fingers leftNearly all my fingers are still up.

Common questions

How is the score worked out?
Your score is the number of fingers you have left. You start with ten, and each line you tap folds one finger down.
Does having fewer fingers left mean something is wrong with me?
No. It only means you have heard more of these lines. Most women who date have heard several of them.
Why are there no lines about sex or intimacy?
This game stays on the moments you can post in a group chat: talking stages, aunties, exes and the lines men use. It is made to be played with friends.
Is this private?
Yes. Your taps stay on your phone. If you share your result, the link and the picture show your band only, never your lines.

Where this comes from

The lines come from what Nigerian women describe about dating in these pieces and from the moments the Wholesome Girlies team hears most often. The game is for fun. Read it alongside our editorial policy.
